While this book gives some background information on parts of Washington, Maryland, and Virginia, A Thread Runs Through Herstory uniquely gives readers a glimpse at the spiritual strength of an African American family as the basis of their stability and endurance. The humorous, sensitive, frightening, and uplifting stories that these women tell provide a positive message for women of all races and for young adults of both sexes in their quest to overcome life's struggles in order to create wholesome family structures.
