Long ago the immortals learned the secrets of magic, and acquired knowledge of the great mystical powers that turn the wheels of the universe. Many used this new and powerful knowledge only for the good of all while others saw the advantages of its darker side. Eventually, war broke out between the two factions. The ensuing terrible conflict between beings possessed of such enormous power destroyed their world, rendering it uninhabitable. Those that believed that magic existed for the good of all won that war, but only just. With their world destroyed, the few survivors built a great ship and set sail upon the seas of stars, searching for a new world to call home. At the last, they came to earth. With humanity already in place, the race of immortals settled as mentors, guiding the race of humanity upward from savagery toward civilization. Some even took to themselves human mates, engendering a race of mighty kings. But there were those immortals, born upon the earth of pure blood, who despised the role of mentor and desired dominance. The greatest of these was a master wizard named Dagrun. Having delved deep into magic's darker aspects, Dagrun at last believed himself invincible, and precipitated war among humans. At the last, his minions having defeated the forces of the king, he went himself into the royal palace at Avnazor and slew the royal family, destroying the line of kings. When the greatest wizard of that time, Master Ayrfel, learned of this treachery, he rose up in wrath to withstand Dagrun. The battle between them raged far and wide, and at the end both were mortally wounded. Both fled away from all sight and knowledge to die alone, as is the way of wizards. Now, more than a thousand years later, war has again broken out across the face of the earth. And once more, the forces of great darkness, the darkness of magic, appear to be involved. At the capitol city of Ghiron, the queen faces the destruction of her city and of her people. The writings of an ancient mystical seer states that a savior, the unknown prince, will arrive to save her and push back the forces of darkness. But will he arrive too late, when there is nothing left to save? Adaster, the only immortal left upon the earth who seeks to act in the interest of good, has looked for the unknown prince for centuries. Will he come?
