Reseña del libro "Evidence is Lacking. Yet I Still Hope.: A Primary Source Glimpse into a World War I Soldier's Life...Home to Camp Lewis to France (en Inglés)"

EDUCATIONAL VERSION: Using the inquiry arc, your students can hone their thinking skills by examining original documents, photographs, maps, telegrams and other items just as a historian would. Can you visualize your students as detectives, searching for evidence among one hundred-year-old sources? This book is the passport to piquing their curiosity about history through examining well over one hundred primary sources about one AEF soldier. Included are documents and photography, his journal, his Camp Lewis diary, and a plethora of other materials about his service. It is extremely rare to examine such a substantial variety of sources about one person. Your students will not only understand Joshua's role in The Great War, but will see him as a new friend. By focusing on one doughboy, the story of World War I will come alive. History becomes personal. History becomes real. For the inquiry lesson, the kit of forty full-color documents is core to the students' investigative experience, as explained in the preface and teacher guide ebook. In order to successfully prepare the inquiry experience, onsite teacher workshops or teacher orientation webinars are offered, as well as student debriefing webinars after the inquiry. More information about materials, large order specials, and services are outlined at joanenders.com. Joshua Henry Bates, a young teacher in a country school, wondered what he shall do with his life. He enjoyed summers away from the farm, attending college, dancing at Saltair, watching pictures shows and enjoying ice cream on bone dry summer days. In his journal he questioned his future. He found a young woman to love, but she was an ever-mutating mystery. He tried to change his life: cooling the relationship with his girlfriend, teaching in a new school, and registering for service in the American Expeditionary Forces. Still, Joshua was filled with self-doubt.Will Josh marry the girl? Will he find a dazzling life mission? Will he be victorious in war? (A second book in "A Primary Source Glimpse" series will be published later in 2018. The subject will be a Marine of Iwo Jima). Students will pour over actual sources about Joshua, an everyman doughboy of World War I. Included are documents and photography from his youth, his journal, his Camp Lewis diary, and a plethora of other materials about his life. They will not only understand his role in The Great War, but will see him as a new friend. By focusing on one doughboy, the story of World War I will come alive. The optional kit of forty full-color documents is available for ease in the teaching experience. Onsite teacher workshops, webinars or student webinars are also available.
