By the late 1800's, dentists on both sides of the Atlantic were experimenting with numerous designs and materials for early implant prototypes, many of which were immediately loaded, and some of which survived for pretreated periods. Patients must understand the limitations of such treatment and be willing to accept the scientifically based precautionary measures.
