When Marcus rolled out of bed in a working class section of Detroit, he had a head full of ideas and not much else to help him solidify how he will spend the next four years after graduating high school in the spring. He doesn't know it but his courage will be severely tested by alien creatures and people and under conditions unimaginable to average residents of the Motor City. Until now, Marcus kind of drifted through life. But you know, life has a way of helping a person set aside trivial bullshit in order to focus on things that really matter. His no nonsense mother Gladys parcels out out wisdom like flinging a bucket of ice water. Her no nonsense approach hit him squarely in the face making him realize the importance of nurturing better relationships with the people that are most important to him. Through disappointment and determination he has developed deep appreciation for penitence and making amends for time wasted. But before he can make any of this happen he has to escape creatures and the perils of living among members of a hostile race.
