The book opens with a general county history, which includes its establishment, geography, government, settlement, and just about every other conceivable aspect of its development and daily life. Transcriptions of historical speeches add to the flavor of the reading. Following this chapter are sections dealing with each of the county's sixteen townships, which are packed with details like those mentioned above, plus biographical sketches of notable citizens and local anecdotes.
