The advent of Global Positioning Systems (GPS's) has lead to the disuse of some lighthouses, and they are disappearing. Preservation organizations have sprung up to try to save many of these historic landmarks. Sadly the preservation efforts are not always successful, but many are. One of those organizations known as the American Lighthouse foundation, which has been involved with the preservation and restoration of a number of the lighthouse is seen here. My biggest hope is that you will be moved by the beauty and history of these monuments to help in the fight to save these "Silent Sentinels of The Shores".
