"The Cool Kids" is a collection of poems, written over the course of six months, which reflect the moments of pain, excitement, surprises, changes, and self-discovery that occur while growing up. This is about the players, the couple madly in love, the band geeks, the athletes, the slackers, the honor students, and the prom queen. As different as each of these people are, they all have one thing in common - they are trying to figure out their purpose in the world. Vega tightly grips the reader's hand and she takes them to the places she knows well - the back road and the car stereo playing Fleetwood Mac, the hallways, the fields, the smell of evergreen trees and stale smoke, the corner store, the basement, the neon orange of the fuel indicator light.
