TRAPPED encourages a deeper understanding of the new and unique challenges for the young generation. It starts with a historical view of events leading to the string of economic disasters analogous to the aftermaths of catastrophic natural disasters. It explains why after surviving geological and financial fractures, one natural and the other man-made, we're now facing a new set of hurdles to overcome and the young generation are right in the middle of it. It analyzes the higher bar of global competitiveness, unsettling geopolitical forces reshaping global trading and the growing sentiment on global warming concerns that have taken away some of the wind out of our economic sails. The fog in the global warming controversy is explored going through the theories and arguments posed by a divided scientific community. Focusing on the industrial and services sectors being the main drivers of our economic growth, simplified informative descriptions with infographics are presented to explain the basics and the economics of energy production and why low-cost reliable power plays an important role in setting our energy policy to ensure our global competitiveness. TRAPPED addresses the things that have changed recounting how we've used the sources of energy available to us, where we've failed and the risks involved in the choice of our energy mix for the future. It boils down to dollars and cents, but when muddied by political taint coupled with overregulation due to environmental concerns, choices often ignore the direct impacts of down-sizing manpower in a contracting economy hiking up unemployment while shrinking spendable money. Abundant use of infographics provides convenient views and insights into the economic crises, the global warming controversy, energy costs, competitiveness in manufacturing and global trade as well as the economic imbalance that has aggravated the unemployment issues. Failures of businesses along with an uninspiring job market are direct consequences. Contrary to many economists' opinions, global economic crises will have more than a small effect on the young generation. Why this matters now and ways on how to prevent it are central to the discussions in this book. In this context, job market search and the difficulties ahead are highlighted to alert them on how to deal with it. Then finally, solutions are laid out for the young generation in moving forward to escape from the economic traps.
